Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada has released the May report for Canada: Outlook for Principal Field Crops. The report expects the 2017-18 carry out of stocks to fall to 170,000 tonnes. Looking ahead to 2018-19, AAFC forecasts a lower seeded area in Canada of 400,000 hectares. Production is estimated to increase to 615,000 tonnes basesd on average yields. Exports in 2018-19 are expected to reach 600,000 tonnes which will reduce carry-out stocks to 155,000 tonnes. Low soil moisture across much of the Prairie growing region is a current concern for flax production. For the report click here.
